Helping Jo Rigsby Achieve Her Best Health | Humana

My name is Faye Josephine Rigsby and I live
in Edmonton, Kentucky. I had to go to the nursing home for a couple
of weeks. I did not like that situation at all, because
I’ve always been very independent and I want to stay that way. It was a bad time to tell you the truth. Everything was costing so much. I sometimes would skip some of the medicine. I had reached a point to where it seemed like
I was going to have to beg and I didn’t want to beg. I didn’t want to and I sure didn’t want
my kids helping me or my sister. Mom has worked her whole life to take care
of everything and us. When she got down to where she couldn’t do
like she could, it was really hard on her because she’s used to being able to do for
herself. But she deserves to have somebody to help
take care of her because she’s been the one to take care of stuff for so many years. She deserves the help that she can get from
Humana. My first contact with Jo was in March of 2017. She had had a stroke and I think the stroke
was a bit of a wake-up call. She does have her son, Brent, that is disabled
that lives with her and it is a big motivating factor for her to be able to stay in her home,
to be there for him. I didn’t have a husband that I could talk
to. I didn’t have anybody I could talk to, but
I wanted to live because I have a handicap son and I had to live. Nurse Dawn – she got me started. So, one of the first things we did was to
help her secure a grant through the Pam Foundation, which significantly reduced the cost of some
of her medications. We then started working on each chronic condition. Since Dawn has started calling and talking
to her, she’s more apt to go to the doctor where before you had to practically force
her. We kept begging her. I kept coming trying to get her to go and
she wouldn’t do it. I just didn’t like going to doctors. And most times I’ll say, “Nah, everything’s
fine.” Well, it’s really not, but I just said. We all tend to be “fine” around our family
and friends, and sometimes it takes somebody from the outside to say, “It’s okay not
to be fine. What can I do to help you get back to feeling
fine?” I’ve developed a real friendship with Dawn. As a matter of fact, I love her. We gave her the tools to be able to take care
of herself. Her overall health knowledge has increased
greatly, and she has me to call when she has a problem. I may not be able to answer all your questions,
but I can certainly help you to get to somebody who can. I wouldn’t expect the insurance company to
really care about people like that. But I mean, I can’t say enough how much it’s
helped her, especially having to take care of a grown adult son also. Humana has helped me tremendously. Now that I am feeling better, I’m really
enjoying what I can do. So, I’m back now to where I can be independent
again and that’s what I want to stay doing.
