My name is Vicente Diaz-Gonzalez, I am a
medical doctor, I specialized in internal medicine and I was born in Mexico City. Well, I was born and raised into medicine, my father was a surgeon and my mom is a retired nurse, she used to do obstetrics and they met in the hospitals and then they had six children, five physicians and a dentist, there was really almost no
choice because all I read, you know, all I got into when I was growing up was
medicine, it’s all I heard and so I really developed a significant love
for the practice. The thing that I love the most is that I can actually see
patients from newborns to I have a 102 year old patient. There is no
limit to the amount of diversity that comes into the door to see me and I just
love the fact that I have had patients that followed me for almost two decades
now and it’s just awesome. I’m also pretty loving with my patients, I try to
listen, the most important thing is I like to give them the perception that
we’re family. My way of doing medicine is just, what you see is what you get, I’m as open as I am right now with you, whatever they want to know, I’ll answer and that
has helped me develop a deeper education with them and so I just love my patients. I think that cultural sensitivity is very important because you cannot treat the
same way, a patient from an Eastern Europe a Mexican or Latin American
patient or a patient from Philippines a patient from Japan or patient from India,
everybody has their own idiosyncrasies, everybody has their own diet, everybody
has their own things that they like. You just have to be sensitive to the fact
that patients are human beings and you have to understand that
we’re not gonna be perfect, I’m not perfect in my diet, I’m trying to preach
by example but at the same time I try to be culturally sensitive to any variable
that they come up with because in order for you to gain the respect and in order for
you to be in their confidence, you have to be sensitive to their needs and
everybody’s different.
