"Women doctors will drop out of leadership roles due to how they are treated" … so , men font face mistreatment? And if you drop from a leadership role because of your feels , then you probably don't need to be a leader

Maybe female physicians care more about their patients & giving better care takes more time. This guy is a Dr. for the money not to help the sick. I’m not a doctor but I probably care more about people in general than this sexist ass. He’s not trying to fix the world, he’s only trying to fix his wallet

Men have to denigrate women because woman are stronger, they bear the children, raise the children, they maintain families, and rivet beams. men have to denigrate. Why have a partner walking at your side when you can use your loved ones AS PUNCHING BAGS because YOU ARE INSECURE.

It doesn't matter how you "feel", it matters what data shows. And it wasn't shown here any. If you don't like what you are paid, then just quit. It's the advantage of a free capitalist society

As a medical transcriptionist I typed both male and female physician's reports.  By far the physicians who saw the most patients daily in my personal experience were two female ones, one of whom, worked 15-hour days and would see up to 35 patients a day in her office.  Why do I suspect this idiot Texas doctor is a hardcore Trump supporter?    LMAO

That's another problem with doctors. They're in a rush, and work too hard. When needless, dangerous surgeries plummet 80-95% in this country and doctors spend more time with patients before rushing them out the door with fake chemical cures in their hands, our health care will finally improve in the interests of health instead of the interest of profits.

It is true though, just he worded it harshly. Many female physicians choose to work less hours and take less patients so that they can get out earlier to take care of their family. They know when they negotiate their hours that because of this they will be paid less. There are also plenty of women who choose not to do this and earn the same / more than men. The basic fact is, women physicians do earn on average less than men because they work less hours, not because "they're not working as hard".

Incorrect. Women and men are not allowed to be paid more or less on the sole basis of gender. Its been illegal since "The Equal Pay Act of 1963". Meaning if these women are getting paid less for no reason (which they're not) they can take it to court.

This is exactly why people dont hire women. They feae they'll pull shit like this. They dont fear EVERY woman of doing that, they fear the minority that can ruin lives with no evidence, logic, or reason.

And how about the 5+ studies, including in NEJM, showing that patient mortality rates are LOWER with female physicians. In fact, a massive study was JUST published on thousands of heart attack patients to ERs in Florida. Mortality rates w/ these patients were LOWER under female docs. I'm a male medical student telling that loser doctor to either do his research or piss off you sexist loser.

It is ILLEGAL to pay women less than men. Women, even doctors, do not get PAID less. They may EARN less which is what the Texas doctor said. EVERYONE knows this but they don't let a fact get in the way of some juicy indignation and special pleading.

If you see more patients you will make more money. If you see less patients you will make less money. If the average male doctor sees more patients regularly than the average female doctor they would in theory make more money.
The fact that women do not see as many patients of men can have many reasons.
– Most of the time they have the responsibility of being a mother. So they have to sacrifice work for their children.
– Some patients may feel like a male doctor would be more appropriate.
– and others
CNN is trying to make the phrase ‘Don’t work as hard’ sound like he’s calling women ‘sloppy’ or ‘lazy’
Let’s imagine that all male and female doctors are payed the same average money for the same number of patients. And if there’s still a income inequality in that field hen it’s surely because of what I mentioned. I’m NOT saying that that’s GOOD. Women DO NOT need to be pressured by society to sacrifice work. this is the end make them financially vulnerable. And that a dangerous situation for them. What I’m saying is that if the reason is what I mentioned it’s our responsibility to change society. Empower women.

Based upon my own experiences, gender is not enough of a factor in determining someone's abilities – it can inform the conversation about type of work, duration of physical exertion, but so can someone's overall relative physical health, too. I see all of these gender arguments as childish, petty, and without merit really. Each PERSON brings something different to the table, and their basket of tools is different from YOUR basket of tools. I think we waste a lot of time trying to fill headlines, yet imparting something that only wishes it live in the same house as 'wisdom'. People have stereotypes – that's their problem, likely this Doctor in Texas has a limited range of friends due to his perceptions and views, he has self-limited his exposure to the world and chosen to say something he must know by now would infuriate others: why did he say it? Could he be wrong? Did he do his homework, or just make a generalization based upon limited understanding?

When people make assessments of others based upon their race, their religion, their age, their economic background, their skin color, their choice of relationship/partner/spouse – these judgments show us how SMALL those people are, and how they have been taught to think. Some of these behaviors are in ALL of us, truthfully – but whatever WE choose to think is our OWN problem, nobody else's. I understand that others who think this way can get in the way of our own success in life, but that's LIFE – we must always fight against evil wherever it shows its ugly face, even within our own SELVES. I have every hope that this event taught this person a lesson about kindness, compassion, true candor – which is not the same as rudeness, or being negligently blunt. He is in a position of authority, and he needs to control his boundaries and inhibitions better than that, we have to expect more from adults than to be allowed to behave like an untaught child. That's what a lot of adult people are today, un-taught CHILDREN. Please – GROW UP – have some basic MANNERS, think before you speak. Then teach the rest of us, me included, how you did it! 😀

Well, almost everything about what he said was factually true about the long hours, family oriented lives and whatnot. Things he said like “don’t like being rushed” was just stupid. The pay gap also isn’t real and has nothing to do with bias and discrimination, at least definitely not towards women. Kind of a let down that woman on the panel turned out to have her “facts” wrong.

So, women of Texas if this is your physician it is time to boycott this idiot and show him you all are a force to reckon with, because this is how he feels about you.

If you substituted the word "women" with the word "working poor", you would get a lot more sympathy from me. I'm sorry to the anesthesiologist who is making 175k, instead of the 200k her male counterpart is making. *tear*. "…anybody who is not paid well, supported and challenged… these people are not going to thrive!" The heart surgeon that is a mother of 4.. how about the mother of 4 that works 2 jobs, maybe one at a nursing home, bathing and feeding your elderly mother and the other, at your house, raising your kids while you're doing the, "important" work. SMH people… please help the HARD WORKING AMERICANS who are suffering in this country… there are SO many people who put in their 40hrs a week and can't even afford the daycare needed in order to have the jobs!!!!

It amazes me that everyone is losing their shit over this man's comments, when in fact no seemed to have a problem about that bogus study that came out a few weeks ago that said women make better doctors than male doctors. WOmen were "You go-girling" and high-fiving each other like crazy over that one. But God forbid you say anything disparaging about their "abilities". Lol…hilarious. And for the record, this man is correct. My family doctor is a female and getting an appointment to see her is like pulling hen's teeth. She is NEVER available and only works 9 to 5, Monday to Friday since she is hell-bent on spending time with her children. I have to book two months in advance just to get in to see her. It's ridiculous.

Generalised comments have no focus and it is a lazy way to start a narrative. In my experience in Nigeria female doctors earn same as male. Most informative is that of all the doctors I have been a mentor to 50% of the females have moved to Europe and the Americas while 0%of the males remain in Nigeria looking for easy money.
